Ragi Uppma is a popular South Indian breakfast dish made with finger millet (ragi) and spices. Here’s a simple recipe:

 

Ingredients

– 1 cup finger millet (ragi) flour

– 2 cups water

– 1 tablespoon oil or ghee

– 1 small onion, finely chopped

– 1 small tomato , grated

– 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds

– 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

– 1/4 teaspoon turmeric

– Salt, to taste

– Optional: curry leaves, or other spices

 

Instructions

  1. Roast the ragi flour: Dry roast the ragi flour in a pan over low heat for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Prepare the tempering: Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves (if using). Let them sizzle.
  3. Add chopped onion and carrot: Add the chopped onion and tomatoes . Cook until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add water and ragi flour: Gradually add the water to the pan, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Add the roasted ragi flour and mix well.
  5. Cook and season: Cook the upma over low heat, stirring continuously, until it’s cooked and fluffy. Season with salt and turmeric.
