Moong Dal Khichdi recipe:

 

Ingredients:- ½ cup brown rice

– ½ cup moong dal (yellow split)

– 1 small onion, chopped

– 1 tomato, chopped

– 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste

– 1 tsp cumin seeds

– Pinch of turmeric

– Salt to taste

– 2 tbsp ghee or oil

– 3-4 cups water

– Optional: chopped veggies (beans,  spinach)

 

Method:1. Wash rice and dal together, soak 15 mins (optional).

  1. Heat ghee/oil, add cumin seeds, let splutter.
  2. Add onion, sauté till pink. Add ginger-garlic paste, cook 1 min.
  3. Toss in tomato, turmeric, salt. Cook till soft.
  4. Add rice-dal mix, stir for 2 mins.
  5. Add water, veggies (if using). Pressure cook 3-4 whistles or cook till soft.
  6. Mash lightly, adjust water for consistency. Serve hot with chutney or papad.
