Upma

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup semolina (rava)
  2. 2 cups water
  3. 1 tablespoon oil or ghee
  4. 1 small onion, finely chopped
  5. 1 small tomato, diced ( not in night)
  6. 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  7. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Optional: curry leaves, chilies, or other spices

Instructions

  1. Heat oil or ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
  2. Add chopped onion and saute until translucent.
  3. Add diced tomato and saute for a minute .( not in night)
  4. Add semolina and roast until lightly browned.
  5. Gradually add water, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  6. Cook until the semolina is cooked and the mixture thickens.
  7. Season with salt and garnish with chopped coriander or curry leaves (if using).
  8. Serve hot.
